Total Hip Replacement Surgery in Chennai

Total Hip Replacement Surgery

Causes of Hip Pain

The most common cause for hip pain is arthritis. There are various kinds of arthritis that can affect the hip joints and below are the most important conditions that require hip replacement procedure.

Osteoarthritis – it is the age-related wear and tear arthritis where osteoarthritis produces inflammation that can wear down cartilage and results in damaged joints. This makes the bone to rub each other which will lead to hip pain and stiffness in the joints.

Osteonecrosis – This happens due to an inadequate supply of blood to the hip joint, where the bones deform and collapse.

Rheumatoid Arthritis – An autoimmune disease which causes inflammation or thickening in the synovial lining of joints which causes synovial fluid. It leads to stiffness and severe pain in the joints.

Total Hip Replacement Surgery at SIMS, Chennai

The THR is also called as Total Hip Arthroplasty. In this procedure, our surgeon surgically removes a damaged bone and cartilage with arthritis and replace it with a prosthesis made of metal or plastic as an artificial joint. This hip replacement surgery will help to relieve pain in the hip joint and make walking easier for the patients.

Hip replacement can also be done using a minimally-invasive technique with a minimal size of the incision. During the surgery, our orthopaedic surgeon will give either general anaesthesia or a spinal block to numb the lower part of the body. We have nearly 20+ years of experience in the Hip Replacement Surgery and Revision Hip Replacement Surgery in India.

During Hip Replacement Procedure

To perform hip replacement surgery, your surgeon will

Make an opening in the side or front of the hip through the tissue layers and move the muscles to expose the hip joint. The ball portion of the hip is removed.

Remove the damaged deformal head and replace it with a metal placed at the hollow centre of the femur. This femur is either fitted or cemented into the bone with an artificial prosthesis that allows the bone to attach to the replaced joint.

In standard surgeries there will be a cut for 8 to 10-inch-deep in the sides of the hip and in the minimally invasive techniques the cut will be 2 to 5 inches. The small cuts will help in less blood loss and pain during the surgery. The minimal invasive method will also reduce the scars, speedy recovery and shortens hospital stay for the patients. SIMS hospitals provide Total Hip Replacement Surgery with minimally invasive technique also.
