Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
The aneurysm formed in the portion of aorta in the abdomen cavity is known as Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm. SIMS has got specialized treatments for an aortic aneurysm. 4 to 8 percent of people are getting affected by this disease.
The normal size of Abdominal Aorta will be 3 and 3.5cms and those which is above it is considered as rupture. The Abdominal aortic aneurysm treatment is done with EVAR stent grafting. It is also called as AAA.
Causes
Abdominal aortic aneurysm is caused because of the following factors
- Smoking
- Use of Cocaine
- Hypertension
- Genetic Factors
- Vasculitis
Symptoms
Depending on the aorta’s size and bulges, there may be internal bleeding inside the artery which may cause a rupture. This will be mistaken for heart attack in most of the cases. An abdominal aortic rupture can be identified with the following symptoms.
- Jaw and Chest pain
- Sore feel in the abdomen
- Fainting
- Breathing Difficulties
- Weakness on either one side of the body
- Continuous pain in the abdomen for hours or days
If AAA ruptures it may lead to
- Sudden severe back pain or pain in the lower abdomen
- Urinary problems
- Sweating
- Dizziness
- Rapid heart rate on standing position
- Vomiting and Nausea
- Constipation

Most aneurysms are identified only during the screening. We at SIMS recommend ultrasound test for screening abdominal aortic aneurysms and can further proceed with treatment or surgery depending on the condition of the aneurysm.
