SIMS Hospital, Chennai in association with SAHAS Cardiology Centre organizes medical services at Sabarimala. The purpose is to serve and provide cardiac medical assistance to the devotees coming to seek the blessings of Lord Ayyappa.
SIMS Hospital has been privileged to have been associated with the divine work since last 4 years. Every year the medical services is organized from mid of November to end of January. The critical care centre is manned by trained emergency doctors, Cardiac doctors, Anaesthetists and nursing professionals to address the health concerns of the pilgrims ranging from shortness of breath, palpitation, chest pain to heart attack. The critical care centre is equipped with an ECHO and also an ECG machine. The centre has provisions for necessary blood tests as well. An ambulance with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is parked at the base camp at Pampa. The emergency cases, sick cases are first stabilized in Sabarimala, Sannidhanam and shifted to Pamba, which are further transferred to Kottayam GH for further management via SIIMS ambulance. Generally the critical care centre witnesses about 3000 – 4000 patients every season and cases like URTI, Myalgias along with other critical Cardiac cases. Almost 40 intubated ventilator patients are evacuated to Kottayam GH through SIMS ambulance. Immediately thrombolysis treatment is given to the heart attack patients.
This year the services was flagged off at SIMS Hospital at 9.15 am on 16-Nov’21 by Honourable Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Shri. P. K. Sekhar Babu and Chairman Shree Ravi Pachamuthu along with Mr. Sasi Kumar Nair – Secretary of Mahalingapuram Ayyappan temple Chennai. Dr. S. Jayaraman – HOD, Emergency Medicine at SIMS Hospital coordinates entire team and services.
